Oscar B. Johannsen was born on 7 January, 1912, in New York City. After
one year of college at the University of Alabama and a year of travel he began
work at the United States Steel Corporation at the headquarters in New York
City. He earned a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from City College
of New York in 1951, a masters of business administration form New York
University in 1967, and a doctorate of philosophy from NYU in 1983. After retiring
from the corporate world he was appointed Executive Director of the Robert
Schalkenbach Foundation in 1979, serving until 1996. For many years he also
taught coursees at the Henry George School of Social Science in New York City
and served on the school's board of trustees. He died on 8 January, 2008.
